Raw Onions and Candyfloss

We could sit across from each other
And exchange stories of battlescars
From childhood and adolescence
Or we could talk about that girl
Who broke your heart at sixteen
And the boy who led me on
With a fairytale that ended at eighteen
Or we could break down the walls
And the sob stories and pity parties
And you could tell me about
Your favourite love song
And I’ll tell you mine
We could laugh together
About your need to sing
The national anthem in the shower
Or my obsession with tabloid gossip
We could talk about the movies
And the weekends we wasted rewatching them
We could talk about how I hate raw onions
And you hate pink candyfloss
And then make plans
To talk about all of these
Again and again
