The monologue had ended
A light shone down
Over the collapsed corpse
Betraying the audience
It lay still, yet breathing

Cold cream to remove the stains
The stains of tomfoolery and jesting
Beneath the surface lay
A ravaged ravine
An imperfect facade

She sang a little tune
To tide away the time
And the monotony of routine
She smoothed the creases of her dress
Swathed in silk, a rose adorned her crown

She stepped out into the void
With the promise of night
And looked to the sky
“to watch the stars
that tremble with love and with hope”
